Scope and limitations

What this Virginia guide covers

This guide is deliberately statewide. It includes only contests and questions every Virginia voter can decide, plus the official rules and source records needed to understand them.

Included

Published now

  • The one candidate contest voted statewide
  • Both official printed U.S. Senate choices in the September 14 federal list
  • Two processed FEC candidate summaries with exact identifiers, authorized committees, fields, and reporting windows
  • All three November statewide constitutional amendments
  • Official general-election write-in guidance and the absence of a published named Senate write-in roster
  • Registration, same-day provisional registration, absentee, early-voting, identification, and Election Day rules
  • The constitutional judicial-selection rule and a zero statewide judicial-item count
Not included

Outside this release

  • U.S. House contests, which vary by congressional district
  • The House of Delegates District 20 special election
  • Local offices and local referendums
  • The April redistricting referendum, which the Supreme Court of Virginia voided
  • Primary-only, withdrawn, replaced, unprinted, or inferred candidate names
  • Unnamed prospective write-in campaigns
  • Virginia state finance records because the sole statewide candidate contest is federal
  • Independent expenditures, outside spending, and transaction-level donor or expenditure analysis

Use the official portal for district and local choices

Use the Virginia Citizen Portal and the Department of Elections candidate and referendum lists to confirm polling details, districts, and the complete ballot for your address.

Dataset comparison: Both FEC cards use the same 2025-2026 reporting window, but one summary covers one authorized committee and the other aggregates two. Candidate-level FEC totals should not be compared with state campaign-finance systems as if their methods were identical.
