No state write-in voting

Hawaii does not have provisions for write-in voting. The Federal Write-In Absentee Ballot is only a backup federal ballot for eligible military and overseas voters who timely requested but did not receive a ballot; it is not a state declared write-in candidate process.

Coverage boundary: This page covers only candidate contests decided by all Hawaii voters. The 12-choice count treats each governor and lieutenant governor ticket as one choice and counts each OHA candidate separately. All registered voters statewide may vote in the Maui Resident Trustee, Oahu Resident Trustee, and At-Large Trustee contests. The OHA At-Large contest elects three trustees, so voters may select up to three of the six candidates. Hawaii's two U.S. House races, state legislative races, county contests, and county charter questions are excluded. The official 2026 proclamation lists two U.S. House seats but no U.S. Senate contest. The two statewide constitutional amendments appear in the voting section rather than the candidate-contest count. Candidate order shown here follows the official proof and is not a claim about every local contest on every ballot style. Read the full coverage boundary.
