No official named write-in roster

Iowa does not require a write-in candidate to file nomination papers or a declaration of intent. Because the state has no advance write-in filing roster, this guide does not publish or count named write-in candidates. A missing named record is not a claim that no write-in votes can be cast.

Coverage boundary: This page covers candidate contests decided by all Iowa voters. The governor and lieutenant governor names are shown together and each ticket counts as one printed choice. U.S. House, General Assembly, district, county, township, soil and water, agricultural extension, hospital trustee, municipal, school, and local contests are excluded. Nicholas Gluba and Jules Cutler are not included because the current official general candidate list and September 25 election notice do not include their governor ticket after the official Section 43.24 objection proceeding. No withdrawn, removed, or unaccepted record is restored by inference. The constitutional amendment and three statewide Court of Appeals retention questions appear in the voting section rather than the candidate-contest count. Candidate order shown here is not a claim about every local ballot style. Read the full coverage boundary.
