No official named statewide general-election write-in roster

Massachusetts says write-in candidates run without filing nomination papers. The state recommends, but does not require, notifying election officials. Voters write the candidate's name and address, and a general-election write-in candidate wins by receiving more votes than any other candidate, with no minimum. The state does not publish an exhaustive list of named general-election write-in candidates. The zero count here means zero officially rostered names, not that write-in voting is unavailable.

Coverage boundary: This page covers candidate contests decided by all Massachusetts voters: U.S. Senator; Governor and Lieutenant Governor; Attorney General; Secretary of State; Treasurer; and Auditor. U.S. House, Governor's Council, General Court, district attorney, register of probate, county, municipal, and local contests are excluded because they are not voted statewide. No withdrawn, removed, replaced, primary-only, district, or local candidate is restored by inference. Write-ins are explained separately because Massachusetts has no exhaustive named general-election roster. The nine binding statewide questions appear in the voting section. Judges are appointed rather than elected statewide. Read the full coverage boundary.
