Make your Maryland voting plan

Register online or by mail by October 13, vote early October 22 through October 29, request the appropriate mail-in ballot delivery method by its deadline, or vote from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on November 3.

First steps

Start with these three actions

Step 1

Register or check your record

Register online or by mail by October 13. Mail applications must be postmarked by that date. If you miss the advance deadline, Maryland offers in-person registration at early voting centers and on Election Day with proof of residence.

Step 2

Find voting locations and your ballot

Use Maryland's voter lookup to confirm your registration, assigned polling place, early voting centers, sample ballot, and mail-in ballot status.

Step 3

Request and return a mail-in ballot

Requests for delivery by mail or fax must be received or submitted online by October 27. Online requests for email delivery are due October 30. Mailed ballots must be postmarked by November 3; hand-delivered and drop-box ballots are due by 8 p.m. November 3.

Election timeline

  1. Online and mail registration deadline

Register online by the deadline or have a mail registration postmarked on or before October 13. In-person registration remains available during early voting and on Election Day.

  2. Write-in candidacy deadline

A statewide write-in candidate must submit the required notarized filing to the State Board by this deadline.

  3. Early voting

Early voting centers are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., including the weekend. Anyone in line by 8 p.m. may vote, and eligible voters may register in person.

  4. Mail or fax delivery request deadline

A request for a mail-in ballot delivered by mail or fax must be received, not merely mailed, or submitted online by this date.

  5. Email delivery request deadline

Submit an online request by this date to receive a mail-in ballot by email for download.

  6. General Election Day and hand-return deadline

Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. In-person registration is available. Anyone in line by 8 p.m. may vote. Hand-delivered and drop-box mail-in ballots must arrive by 8 p.m.; mailed ballots must be postmarked on or before November 3.

Check the current rule: Most Maryland voters are not routinely required to show identification. Some first-time voters will be asked for a current photo ID or a current document showing name and address. A voter registering in person during early voting or on Election Day must bring a document proving residence. Check your registration and polling place before traveling, and confirm that the delivery deadline matches the mail-in ballot method you choose.
On the ballot

3 statewide constitutional questions

The official 2026 ballot-question page lists three statewide constitutional amendments before the county and local sections.

  • Question 1Arbitration Reform for State Employees Act of 2026. Requires each Governor's proposed budget to include expenditures needed for wages, benefits, and other employment terms in state employee collective bargaining memoranda, whether agreed by the parties or ordered by a neutral decider.
  • Question 2Temporary Appointments on the Commission on Judicial Disabilities. Allows qualified temporary substitutes, recalls, or term extensions when a commission member is recused, disqualified, or leaves an expired term without a replacement.
  • Question 3Electoral Districts - General Assembly and Congressional Representatives. Clarifies that specified district requirements apply only to Maryland Senate and House of Delegates districts, permits original Supreme Court jurisdiction over a congressional plan if authorized by law, and states that the Maryland Constitution supplies no congressional boundary criteria.

Judicial retention
