Make your New Jersey voting plan

Use New Jersey's official voter portal to register, verify your record, find early voting and Election Day locations, request or track a vote-by-mail ballot, and review identification and provisional-ballot rules.

First steps

Start with these three actions

Step 1

Register or check your voter record

October 13 is the general-election registration deadline. Voters may register online or by paper form and should use the state portal to confirm registration status.

Step 2

Plan early voting or Election Day voting

In-person early voting runs October 24 through November 1. Sites are open at least 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Election Day polls are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Step 3

Request and return a vote-by-mail ballot

Every active registered voter may request a vote-by-mail ballot. A mailed application must reach the County Clerk by October 27. In-person issuance is available until 3 p.m. on November 2. Return by mail with a timely postmark, by secure drop box, or in person to the Board of Elections. Do not return it to a polling place.

  3. Sample ballot mailing deadline

  4. In-person early voting begins

Every county begins in-person machine voting. Sites are open at least 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

  5. Vote-by-mail application deadline by mail

The County Clerk must receive an application sent by mail by this date.

  8. General Election Day and return deadline

Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. A vote-by-mail ballot returned in person to the Board of Elections or to a secure drop box is due by 8 p.m. A mailed ballot must be postmarked on or before Election Day.

  9. Receipt deadline for certain ballots without a postmark

A mail-in ballot delivered by the U.S. Postal Service without a postmark must reach the county board within 48 hours after polls close.

  10. Receipt deadline for timely postmarked ballots

A ballot mailed with a postmark on or before Election Day must reach the county Board of Elections by this deadline.

  11. Ballot cure form deadline

This is the deadline shown on the official voter portal for county boards to receive a cure form.

Check the current rule: New Jersey does not impose a general photo ID requirement on every in-person voter. Certain voters marked Need ID must show an accepted identifying document at the polling place. A voter who cannot provide required identification must use a provisional paper ballot and submit identification to the County Commissioner of Registration by the close of business on the second day after the election. Review the official Voters' Bill of Rights for the full categories and accepted documents.
On the ballot

No statewide ballot question on the official records checked

The Division of Elections 2026 general-election page lists the statewide U.S. Senate contest but no statewide public question. Official Atlantic and Burlington County sample ballots checked October 1 likewise show no statewide question. This guide therefore counts zero statewide ballot questions while excluding local school, fire district, county, and municipal questions.

Judicial retention

No statewide judicial election or retention question

The New Jersey Constitution provides for the Governor to nominate and appoint Supreme Court justices and Superior Court judges with the advice and consent of the Senate. Supreme Court justices serve an initial seven-year term and, upon reappointment, serve during good behavior until mandatory retirement. New Jersey does not use statewide judicial elections or retention questions under the current constitution.
