Make your Oregon voting plan

Use Oregon's official voter services to register, check or update your record, track your automatically mailed ballot, find a drop box, and confirm signature and return rules.

First steps

Start with these three actions

Step 1

Register by October 13

Submit online registration by 11:59:59 p.m. Pacific Time on October 13, or make sure a paper registration card is postmarked by that date.

Step 2

Check your record and ballot

Use My Vote to check registration, update eligible information, see when the ballot is mailed and received, track a challenge, and find county contact information.

Step 3

Return the signed ballot

Sign the return identification envelope. Use an official drop box or county office by 8 p.m. November 3, or mail the ballot with a postmark no later than Election Day.

Step 4

Use the postmark window correctly

A ballot postmarked by Election Day may be received through November 10. October 27 is the recommended last day to mail; later mailers should ask USPS for a manual postmark.

Election timeline

  1. Registration deadline

Online registration must be submitted by the end of the day. A paper registration card postmarked October 13 is timely.

  2. Counties begin mailing ballots

Active registered Oregon voters begin receiving automatically mailed ballots. There is no separate absentee application requirement for an active in-state voter.

  3. Recommended last day to mail

The Secretary of State recommends mailing at least one week before Election Day. A voter mailing later should request a manual USPS postmark.

  4. General Election Day, drop-box deadline, and mail postmark deadline

County elections offices are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Drop-box ballots must be received by 8 p.m. A mailed ballot must have a timely Election Day postmark.

  5. Timely postmarked ballot receipt limit

A ballot mailed with a valid Election Day postmark may arrive at the county elections office through the seventh day after the election and be counted.

  6. Signature challenge resolution limit

A voter notified of a missing or nonmatching signature has 21 days after the election to resolve the challenge with the county elections office.

Check the current rule: Oregon votes by mail and uses the signature on the ballot return envelope to verify the voter. A drop-box ballot must arrive by 8 p.m. November 3. A mailed ballot must have a valid Election Day postmark and reach the county by November 10. Do not rely on ordinary collection timing close to the deadline; ask USPS for a manual postmark or use an official drop box.
